Political side of things aside, it worries me how young of an audience a Barbie is marketing to. Selfishly, I want the movie to hold true to the novel and not be dumbed down for younger audiences. There are a lot of resonances in that book - it's a heavy story - and I don't want that left out for some empty plotted action film for the whole family or something. It's rated PG-13. Don't market to kids. End of story.
It is kind of awful that they’re trying to dumb down the audience a bit. I feel it’s too… teenager-esque or adult-esque for a young child to even understand the meaning behind the books. It saddens me to think they’re changing the books for young children and making it have a lesser meaning.
